A 'Kanban' system in relation to DevOps is fundamentally a visual project management methodology designed to optimize the flow of work. It uses visual signals, often in the form of boards or cards, to represent work items and their statuses throughout the development cycle. This allows teams to see what work is in progress, what is completed, and what is yet to start, promoting transparency and communication.

The Kanban method emphasizes continuous delivery, helps teams identify bottlenecks in their workflow, and encourages incremental improvements. By visualizing the process, teams can manage their work-in-progress limits, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of work.

This approach is particularly beneficial in a DevOps environment, where the integration of development and operations aims to streamline both release processes and operational tasks. It provides teams with a clear, organized view of their tasks, leading to improved collaboration, reduced cycle times, and quicker response to changes in demands or priorities.

Understanding Kanban as a visual management tool is crucial for any DevOps practitioner, as it embodies key principles of agility and efficiency in work processes.
